Wichita HBS Series multi-plate disc wet brake technology uses oil-in-shear as the torque generator. Custom, spring-applied, hydraulically released brakes are built to suit unique customer tidal turbine design parameters. HBS brakes are mounted directly to the low speed generator shaft. Wichita’s high-speed torque limiting clutches, mounted between the gearbox and generator, provide tidal turbine overload drivetrain protection.
